Bat-Fam director Mike Roth on how Merry Little Batman became a series

IN LATE 2023, DC AND WARNER Bros Animation introduced the world to Damian Wayne (aka Little Batman) in the Prime Video holiday movie Merry Little Batman. A family centric take on the Dark Knight lore, it revealed the dad-first side of Bruce Wayne/Batman (Luke Wilson) as he tries to parent his very excitable son, Damian (Yonas Kibreab).

The success of the film allowed director Mike Roth to roll right into developing the world and characters into a series, Bat-Fam. Retaining the same voice actors and vibe, the series expands the Wayne household to include ghosts, age-reversed former villains and even a crazy uncle, Man-Bat (Bobby Moynihan).

"We pick up right where the movie leaves off, and we introduce a bunch of new characters to the cast," Roth tells Red Alert about how the two projects snap together.

"We're hoping to keep that enthusiasm from the movie to the series, so it's a little bit of everything in there for everybody. We definitely wanted some space for that zaniness and to push expressions, while the main thrust of it is a grounded family sitcom with relatable moments.
