100 medical colleges, 50 dental and pharmaceutical institutions, leading Ayush courses and colleges ranked

How we select the best medical, dental, Ayush, and pharmaceutical institutions

The number of MBBS seats in the country has been consistently rising over the last two academic years, from 91,927 in 2022-23 to 1,09,145 in 2024-25 – an increase of 17,218 seats.

Every year, we gather data from medical colleges across the country to rank them, helping students make informed choices. The ranking methodology for this edition is more or less the same as last year’s.

We have ranked 70 publicly-funded institutions and 30 private ones for MBBS and 25 each from public and private dental institutes offering BDS programmes. For undergraduate Ayush courses, once again we were unable to access institute-specific data. Therefore, we have listed the most preferred institutes for each of the main degree programmes they offer – BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, and BSMS – based on the all India cut-offs, or the lowest ranks at which admission was granted.

In the pharmacy ranking, we have separately ranked 25 public and 25 private institutes. Besides B.Pharma, we have also considered postgraduate programmes in prominent institutes for the pharmacy ranking.

 Assessment of institutes

During the initial stage of shortlisting, out of approximately 706 Indian institutes offering MBBS, around 400 were selected, based on their admission cut-o”s and a research records search spanning the past three years (20222024). Similarly, for dental institutes, out of 323 institutes offering BDS with a total of 28,088 seats, over 250 institutes were shortlisted using the same criteria.

Education's Heroes

In India, education is shaped not only by policies and institutions but also by the people who refuse to accept inequality as the norm. They come from courtrooms, laboratories, medical colleges, village squares, and city streets, bound by a belief that learning must be a right for all, not a privilege for a few. Some take on entrenched systems through litigation and advocacy; others create small but lasting change through libraries, community classrooms, and grassroots campaigns.
