The path hasn’t always been an easy one for Zayn Malik – or his former bandmates (see breakout) – since he walked away from One Direction in 2015. But the musician has finally found his new purpose in life all thanks to his baby girl, Khai.

“Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example to her,” the very private singer opened up on the Call Her Daddy podcast while giving his first interview in six years. “That’s why I’m even doing this interview, you know? I used to get a lot of anxiety around having a conversation like this. And I want her to be able to look at me and be like, ‘My dad’s doing this.’”
