'The Curvy one'

Before being cast in her career-defining role as uptight romantic Charlotte York on Sex and the City in 1997, Kristin Davis had considered opening a yoga studio after working sporadically as an actress in daytime soaps and scoring guest spots on series like ER and The Larry Sanders Show.

That alternate career path went out the window, though, when she landed the role of conniving heiress Brooke Armstrong in night-time soap Melrose Place in 1995, but stardom came with its own downside. While she got along with the cast, including Heather Locklear, she recalled in an interview with People magazine that “there was a general vibe on the set though, that was difficult, about the thinness situation”.

Soon after starting, she was approached by co-star Thomas Calabro. “He’s like, ‘Kristin, I’m so happy to see you here, I just wanna tell you, you know, I think you look great,’” Davis, who turns 60 on February 23, recalled. “And I’m like … ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘Oh, I know that the producers are really stressed, you know, but I just think it’s amazing that we have a woman who has curves. I just think they shouldn’t, you know, put too much pressure on you.’ And I’m like, ‘What?’”
