He may play a superhero on the silver screen, but actor Jeremy Renner was being a real-life hero when a tragic accident left him in hospital on New Year’s Day, fresh details have revealed. The 52-year-old, who stars as Hawkeye in the Avengers franchise, was attempting to free a stranded car outside his home on the side of a snowy mountain in Reno, Nevada when he was run over by his PistenBully snowplough, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s department.

“He was helping someone stranded in the snow,” Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve told the Reno Gazette-Journal. “He is always helping others.”
