Don't mistake Charlize Theron for just another Hollywood star-the Academy Award winner has a fierce sense of independence. The actress and producer, who wants it known she doesn't need a man, recently joined host Alex Cooper on podcast Call Her Daddy to pull back the curtain on her private life. Theron spoke candidly about the joys of single motherhood and the freedom she's found in raising her kids on her own terms as she embraced turning 50 on August 7.

“I broke the cycle,” she said. “It looks from afar that I’m just doing what I know, which is being a single mum, because I was raised by pretty much a single mum. But I think I'm raising my kids as a single mum because of, definitely, avoidance of things I know I don’t want and also understanding who I am fully and being honest with who I am and what I can give right now.”
