With the intriguingly titled Cat Full of Spiders her first book! actress Christina Ricci shares her fascination with tarot and reveals what it can, and cannot, do

Christina Ricci - HOLDS ALL THE Cards

Ever since she played the Bermuda Triangle– loving, brother-electrocuting 10-year-old Wednesday Addams in 1991’s The Addams Family, Christina Ricci has been associated with the darker side of things. So it stands to reason that her first book, Cat Full of Spiders, would be a guide to the mystical practice of divining your future through tarot cards. (Does anyone hear spooky music?)

But here’s where Ricci, 44, upends our expectations: “It may feel like [an] answer came from magic, but it really didn’t,” she tells Us. “Our brains are what is magic.” To recap: no big mystery here. “I personally love looking at things people view as mystical or magical and finding how it works in a more grounded way,” Ricci adds.

The Yellowjackets star’s interest in pulling cards started when she was 14 and shooting the comingof-age flick Now and Then, which included a scene of childhood friends visiting a psychic for a reading. “I just thought it was cool and interesting,” she notes. Her book (due out Oct. 8) comes with a set of 78 tarot cards, so, yes, you can try this at home. Here, Ricci lets this Cat out of the bag!

What is it that you love about tarot?
