When France beckons, Tinseltown’s finest show up in style! Leading the charge at the 78th Cannes Film Festival was beautiful birthday girl Angelina Jolie, who returned to the star-studded French Riviera after a 14-year absence and took the red carpet by storm.

On the brink of turning 50 (a milestone she marked on June 4), the mom of six was chosen as “godmother” of this year’s prestigious Trophée Chopard, earning her the privilege of presenting it to two rising stars - French actress Marie Colomb, 30, and British True Detective: North Country actor Finn Bennett, 26 - and spending a year as their mentor.

“What brings us here is not carpets, even though they are lovely,” Angelina told the pair before praising their talent. “What brings us here is to connect with each other through international cinema and the opportunity to be with creative people.”

Grateful to be learning from the Oscar winner, Finn thanked the woman he called a “revered actor and film-maker,” adding, “Her work in humanitarian causes and ecological causes means she’s someone who is and will always be on the right side of history.”
