ANDREW'S FINAL FALL

No longer a prince, the King's younger brother is stripped of all honours by the monarch and sent into royal exile on the Sandringham Estate

The former Prince Andrew is facing a future in royal exile after the King announced that he was formally stripping his brother of his remaining titles and honours and forcing him to surrender his lease on Royal Lodge on the Windsor Estate.

Andrew, now known as plain Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, will move out of the 30-room mansion he has called home for more than 20 years and into private accommodation on the Sandringham Estate.

His final fall from grace was laid out in a shock statement from Buckingham Palace, following weeks of damaging headlines about his friendship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the publication of a posthumous memoir by his accuser, Virginia Giuffre.

“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the style, titles and honours of Prince Andrew,” the statement said. “Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.

“Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.
