THE FASHION BRAND LICENSING CANVAS UNFOLDS WITH THREADS OF INNOVATION, WHISPERS OF AUTHENTICITY, GLOBAL DANCES, TECHNOLOGICAL ENCHANTMENTS, AND THE CREATION OF EXPERIENCES THAT LINGER IN THE HEART AND MIND'S GALLERY.
-
In 2021, the fashion licensing generated $28.433m of the $315.5bn global licensing industry. With brand collaborations, nostalgia IP and luxury crossovers have taken the market by storm. From H&M's iconic collaborations with MUGLER and Sabyasachi - that sold out in 7 minutes, to top designers such as Tarun Tahiliani and Anita Dongre venturing into over-the-counter retail brands - Tasva and House of Anita Dongre, the past couple of years have seen the fashion licensing industry bloom and become orchards.
According to Sunil Sethi, President, Fashion Design Council of India, "This shift towards corporate collaboration is driven by the availability of knowledgeable advisors who empower designers with valuable insights. Consequently, designers can channel their energies into the realms of creativity and design. The majority of their time can be dedicated to crafting new collections, fostering innovation, and introducing fresh products to the market. In my personal opinion, this shift provides them with a broader scope and greater opportunities for creative expression, allowing their talents to flourish.” Let’s take a look at some of the Indian brands who have mastered the fashion license sector and have found their niche.
