FOSTERING INNOVATION WITH INVESTMENT IN DEEP TECH

AN INCREASING RELIANCE ON TECHNOLOGY, SUCH as artificial intelligence (AI), will result in growth across the tech sector in 2024. Fueled by this expansion, cutting-edge technologies that are contributing to advanced science and engineering known as deep technology, are especially fertile ground for investors. Taiyou Fund, a Beijing-based venture capital firm, is helping investors take advantage of this opportunity by fostering innovation across a range of tech verticals.

"Despite a challenging environment that impacted many industries in 2022, our hard tech sector actually saw counter-cyclical growth in 2023," says Yu Binyan, founding partner and president of Taiyou Fund. "In fact, the pandemic placed greater responsibilities on domestic deep tech companies-presenting both difficulties and opportunities as they step up to play a more crucial role."

Since its establishment in 2014, Taiyou Fund has invested heavily in deep technology, primarily in fields such as digital information, new materials, energy conservation, and biotechnology. Currently, the fund manages approximately 3 billion RMB [about $414 million) in assets and has invested in more than 300 high-tech enterprises, including emerging companies such as Batelab, Mesh Tech, and Lightelligence.

As a founding partner, Binyan is responsible for Taiyou Fund's fundraising, investment, management, and exit strategies. "Our focus on deep technology has never wavered," says Binyan. "Investing in early stage deep technology companies requires resilience. These disruptive technologies are not to be missed, even if it means taking risks."
