RED MEAT 'Poor economy a threat to SA's red meat producers'

In addition to the current political volatility and uncertainty in South Africa, high-interest rates and inflation will put pressure on consumer spending.

This was according to James Faber, chairperson of the Red Meat Producers’ Organisation (RPO).
“In my opinion, South African consumers are financially punchdrunk, and this will invariably inhibit their spending ability in 2023. This will also affect producers. A flourishing economy means a flourishing [farming sector],” Faber told Farmer’s Weekly.
He added that the impact of ever-increasing input costs would continue to have an adverse effect on red meat production, and it was therefore of vital importance for producers to farm as effectively as possible.
