Alex Shahini of CAR magazine concludes his nearly 1 000km all-wheel-drive Kia Sorento odyssey over some of South Africa's most scenic passes.
With the challenge of Lundin's Nek behind us and having reached the top of Naude's Nek (see FW, 27 January), we settled into our overnight stop, Tenahead Mountain Lodge. Tomorrow would see us descending the pass to Mount Fletcher and Matatiele, before a run across the foothills of the Southern Berg to Midmar Dam, and the end of our adventure in Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal.
Situated 2 500m above sea level and recognised as the highest mountain lodge in Africa, the five-star Tenahead nestles among the mountains a few kilometres from the top of Naudé's Nek, offering stunning views. After a good night's rest, we woke up refreshed and ready for day two of our adventure.
