Agri North West welcomes load-shedding initiative
Farmer's Weekly
|23 June 2023
Agri North West welcomed the recent announcement by the province’s MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Desbo Mohono that the department planned to engage with Eskom on the possible exemption of load-shedding for agriculture sectors such as agro-processing.
Agri North West president Willem de Chavonnes Vrugt told Farmer’s Weekly that Mohono’s announcement was significant and underpinned her acknowledgement that load-shedding had put pressure on the entire agricultural value chain, from producers to consumers.
“The announcement dovetails with Agri SA’s initiative to engage with Eskom and the relevant organs of state regarding the curtailment of load-shedding on certain powerlines affecting industries, such as intensive farming enterprises, mills and agro-processing businesses,” he said.
