An Evaluation Of Interim Govt Actions In Energy, Power Sector

Flawed policies and ill-motivated inappropriate strategies have created the crisis over the past 24 years. The power supply chain struggles to meet a power demand of 12,000 MW now and will surely be a great problem when the ensuing deep irrigation period coincides with the month of holy Ramadan, followed by summer will shoot the power demand to 17,500 MW or more. It is ridiculous that a supply chain having over 27,115 MW grid generation capacity cannot consistently meet 15,000 MW. The system suffers from fuel supply shortages and a lack of funds. The present government has inherited the diabolic situation. Many would like to say seven months is too short to address everything and turn around. Nevertheless, the government has taken some actions. Some actions are commendable, and some others are debatable. This article will attempt to critically analyze actions taken by the political government and their impacts on the energy security of Bangladesh.
