Unfolding Future as India Signs Artemis Accord

Why has India joined the Artemis Accord?

On June 21, 2023, at Washington, DC's Willard Hotel, a significant moment unfolded as India's Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Sandhu, affixed his signature to the official document signifying India's acceptance of the Artemis Accords. This act solidified India's commitment to participate in the international initiative and marked a crucial step forward in the country's engagement with the global space community. As part of the accords, India has signed onto the USled effort to return humans to the moon by 2025, with a long-term vision of expanding exploration to Mars and beyond.

By joining the Artemis Accords, India joins forces with 26 other countries committed to peaceful, sustainable, and transparent cooperation in space exploration. A statement from the White House announced that NASA will provide advanced training to Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) astronauts, to launch a joint mission to the International Space Station in 2024.
