India's infrastructure boom faces hurdles such as delays and cost overruns. Country's leading players share strategies for success.

INFRASTRUCTURE IMPERATIVES: BUILDING IT RIGHT

As India races towards its ambitious $5 trillion economy target by 2027, the country’s infrastructure sector is experiencing an unmatched momentum. While planned investments are expected to touch $1.4 trillion by 2025, propelling a construction segment estimated to reach ₹25.31 trillion in 2025 itself. The sector's output had surged by 6.3% August 2025 alone, indicating a 13-month high driven by expansions in coal, electricity, and steel production. The budget allocations by the Government highlight this rapid rise: the the year 2024-25 Union Budget earmarked ₹11.1 lakh crore for infrastructure—an amount expected to increase further in FY2027. According to a report by Mordor Intelligence, the Indian infrastructure sector is expected to reach $280.60 billion by 2030, growing by 8% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from $190.70 billion in 2025.

Describing the rapidly expanding infrastructure buildup in the country, Arvind K Garg, Advisor to Chairman and Managing Director, Larsen & Toubro, says, “India’s infrastructure growth spans sectors like expressways, bridges, metros, mining, smart cities, irrigation, rural roads and utilities. The list is a long one.”

This growth can be seen through mega-projects that have been reshaping the country’s infrastructure landscape, from the Chenab Bridge—the world’s highest rail arch—to expansive renewable energy parks and high-speed rail corridors—all indicative of a country that is currently undergoing a transformation of its physical and economic fabric at a massive scale.
