FOR CAREER BANKER Venkat Chalasani, who took over as Chief Executive of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) in November last year, enhancing investor awareness through education and outreach programmes while at the same time increasing the distribution footprint is a key focus area. He tells Business Today that as more new investors and distributors join the industry, the more it will attract newer and even global players. Edited excerpts:

Mutual funds, especially systematic investment plans (SIPs), have become the go-to investment route for retail investors, corroborated by the record SIP flows over the past few months. What are the two or three key factors driving this SIP rush and the overall increasing popularity of MFs?
