Art Beyond Investment: Broota's Perspective
VASUNDHARA TEWARI BROOTA, a celebrated artist, critiqued the commercialisation of the Indian art scene, noting, “It is no longer about collecting because you love the work, it is about investment.” Raised in Kolkata's vibrant artistic milieu, she shifted from law to art, defying economic and gender barriers. Her distinct stencil and roller work, which gained prominence in the 1980s, aimed to capture “an inner world” inspired by her surroundings. She cited Anupam Sood and Arpita Singh as significant influences. Broota advised aspiring collectors to “Look at a lot of art, visit every exhibition, and try collecting art by people of your age,” prioritising passion over investment. Her insights illuminated the evolving dynamics of the contemporary Indian art market.

Through these intimate reflections, Siddhartha Das painted a vivid portrait of two masters who have left an indelible mark on India's cultural landscape. "Thrive, Not Survive":
