HOW MUCH DOES IT REALLY COST TO HAVE A MUSEUM-SIZE CAR COLLECTION?
The second-floor mezzanine lounge offers a scenic view of the facility.
If you love cars, as I do, you've probably fantasized about having a big collection.
You've thought about what you'd put in it, perhaps a highlight reel of hits from your youth paired with the raciest, rarest metal too exclusive to even make it inside a showroom. Maybe you've considered what your garage would look like, what kind of art and memorabilia you'd have on the wall. Would it be a home away from home for hanging with your homies? Or all business, with a fancy glass office in the corner and a partial tax deduction?
Sure, it’s incredible to walk into a warehouse that’s effectively your own full-size Hot Wheels set, or fun even just to have a smattering of cars to choose from. But where does reality crash into this fantasy? What are the costs and logistics of owning your dream collection?
Like Meek Mill said, there’s levels to this shit. The vast majority of enthusiasts are entry-level collectors, either driving their interesting car daily or keeping a fun car or two in their home garage while their everyday Subaru lives outside. Even big collectors started here.
Behind treasures including several Luigi Colani creations and an Oldsmobile Aerotech go-kart lies a Scuderia Ferrari motor coach used by Michael Schumacher.Dit verhaal komt uit de February/March 2026-editie van Road & Track.

CHASING THE DRAGON
In this job I take a lot of great road trips in a lot of great cars, but I never got to drive the Porsche 918 Spyder in 2013 when it was new.

THE CARS
Welcome to the 2026 Road & Track Performance Car of the Year. I am delighted to bring you the following work of a select team of pros at R&T. The coverage of this year's PCOTY spread out over the next 28 pages is the result of nearly a year of planning, a week of long but glorious days, and a not inconsiderable amount of money. That said, before you flip furiously to the final page of this presentation to see what won, or head to roadandtrack.com to watch the Performance Car of the Year video and read the myriad other stories about these nine cars, I ask that you hear me out on a couple of provisos.

MULTICAR CRASHES ARE NASCAR'S SPECIALTY.
There’s nothing in racing more brutal, or more shamefully entertaining, than a field-clearing wreck at a NASCAR oval. The recipe for disaster is simple: Start a race with a large field of cars, then run them at breakneck speeds with little breathing room. Voilà, vehicular mayhem.
