The new Venue N Line blends sporty aesthetics with everyday usability for the enthusiast at heart

TO THE NTH LINE

In India's hyper-competitive compact-SUV segment, where practicality often reigns supreme, Hyundai has carved out a niche for those craving a dash of drama.

Enter the N Line sub-brand, a recipe of visual flair, cabin upgrades and sporty tweaks that has resonated powerfully with buyers. With the new-generation Venue N Line, Hyundai isn’t just iterating, it’s amplifying the formula. Promising over 30 distinct changes from the standard car, this variant aims to be more than just a cosmetic package. We drove it on the varied roads of Goa to discover if it delivers a genuine enthusiast experience or simply a well-executed illusion.

Hyundai’s N Line strategy in India is a case study in understanding aspirational desires. Beginning with the i20, and expanding to the Creta and now the new Venue, these models successfully tap into a market yearning for personalisation and sporty pretensions without the premium of a full-fat performance car. The first-gen Venue N Line proved there’s a substantial audience for a compact SUV that dares to stand out. With this second act, built on an all-new global platform, Hyundai is doubling down, suggesting that for a growing number of Indian buyers feeling special is now a key purchase criterion.

The commitment is evident at first glance. The Venue N Line is visually distanced from its conventional sibling with purpose. The redesigned front bumper features larger, more aggressive air intakes and a sportier splitter element, while the rear gets a diffuser-like element housing those standout dual offset chrome exhaust tips. These aren’t just for show; they contribute to a deeper acoustic note. The LED lighting signatures, both front and rear, are unique, and the 17-inch alloy wheels, finished in a dark, sporty hue, are complemented by eye-catching red brake callipers. A smattering of ‘N Line’ badges and vibrant paint options, like the fiery Fiery Red, complete a package that confidently communicates its intent.

CHARACTER CERTIFICATE

Recently, I drove the new Mahindra Bolero, an all-black number that somehow still manages to turn heads and spark conversations. Of course, the bare-basic automobile made me wonder out loud at length about its nature. The seats were terrible, it didn’t go very fast, it didn’t steer all that well at whatever speeds it could muster, and stopping was as much a matter of braking technology as it was of prayers. But I liked it. It had character. It sort of reminded me of the Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber, which once pleasantly surprised me with its lovely nature, even though I was done for by the end of the day. The days spent in the Bolero and on the Bobber confirmed what I've always known — too much character is bad for my back.
