ICE-cool Mercedes CLA Range Arrives

MERCEDES-BENZ HAS INTRODUCED THE CLA compact luxury sedan, or a four-door coupé, with a combustion engine. The new M252 four-cylinder displaces 1.5 litres and is derived from the M256 six-cylinder modular engine line. The all-new CLA was first introduced as a pure electric car with two essential powertrain choices, a CLA 250+ and a CLA 350 4MATIC, both carrying the “with EQ Technology” suffix.

The new CLA combustion lineup essentially comprises five variants, all using the new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine in three different states of tune, with peak output coming in at 5,500 rpm in each case, while torque bands differ. The 48-volt mild-hybrid architecture uses a more potent electric motor in the new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, dubbed “8F-eDCT”. The motor is now 22 kW (30 hp) with a torque output of 200 Nm. There is a considerable 1.3-kWh battery pack, which, as we’ve seen with some other German cars recently, brings full hybr
