It's no new Batmobile, but the M4 CSL has all the ingredients for greatness

Welcome back, CSL. Like a rarely seen returning comet, one of the most revered badges in the car world has reappeared after a 19-year hiatus.

In historical BMW-speak, these three letters stand for "Coupé Sport Leichtbau". Nowadays, BMW prefers "Competition Sport Lightweight" which does suggest the designation may appear on something other than a two-door coupé in the near future - yikes! For now, though, the CSL provides the suffix to an M4 coupé that is unmistakably sportier and around 100 kg lighter than the already athletic M4 Competition model.
