New rules confirmed on informing DVLA of changes

DVLA U-turn makes registering restored or modified cars easier

A RAFT of changes have been announced for the UK's vehicle registration process, which will give drivers greater freedom and autonomy when it comes to recording modifications and repairs to their pride-and-joy.

The DVLA has announced that from 28 August, drivers will no longer have to notify the authorities of any like-for-like repairs or restorations to their car, provided that the end product looks just as it did when it left the factory.

While drivers historically haven't needed to inform the DVLA of every small change they make — such as adding a spoiler or new set of wheels — rules previously stated that drivers must flag any significant repair or replacement work, particularly to a car's frame or bodyshell. Now, however, there's no requirement to do so, provided the damaged parts are swapped for identical ones.
