Ashtavakra in Mumbai presents a new perspective to Student housing.
-
In the heart of Mumbai, a city known for its dense urban architecture, stands the Ashtavakra Student Housing, a beautiful example of innovative design and thoughtful planning.
Designed by the architects Mahendra Parekh and Pranav Gajjar, this project challenges conventional norms in student housing, prioritizing dignity, spatial generosity, and social inclusivity.
Ashtavakra is more than just a place to live; it’s an architectural journey that shapes the experiences and identities of its occupants. The project's design philosophy is rooted in the understanding that student housing is not merely infrastructure but a space where young adults form their worldviews, build relationships, and develop a sense of self. Architecture here does not scream for attention. Its language is quiet, grounded in materiality and climatic responsiveness. The building is oriented north-south along its length. Façade elements like the ceramic building envelope - are reminiscent of traditional lattice screens which enable cross-ventilation while ensuring thermal comfort and privacy.DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE
The building's layout is a masterful blend of functionality and aesthetics. With 12 floors, it offers a range of living units, from shared rooms to independent studio apartments, each designed to provide ample space, light, and comfort. The vertical organization of the building follows a logical sequence, with public spaces and utilities on the lower floors and residential units on the upper levels.
