AD EXPLORES ARTIST SEHER SHAH'S PRACTICE ACROSS TWO DECADES THROUGH HER LATEST SHOW AT JHAVERI CONTEMPORARY AND MONOGRAPH TITLED OF ABSENCE AND WEIGHT.

Amidst the strident voices and a spectacular thrust of contemporary art, Seher Shah's practice—rooted in drawing, architecture and printmaking—is a meditation on memory.

Based in Barcelona, Shah explores the architecture of absence and the politics of mark-making from the monochromatic spaces between shadow and light, and form and fragment. With Woven Nights, her latest exhibition with Monika Correa at Mumbai's Jhaveri Contemporary that concluded in October, Shah presented a body of work that activated the possibilities of minimalism. This sensibility resonated with the austere architecture of the gallery, which offered a poignant milieu for Shah's delicate forms.

"It is a privilege to share drawing and printmaking alongside the tapestries by Monika Correa. The works bind weaving and drawing through their respective materiality. This is a language of making things that speak to you, whether through paper or fibre," states Shah. The exhibition presented four distinct bodies of work by Shah, anchored towards her deep-seated engagement with material and method. In doing so, it visually articulated a conceptual language of loss and memory.
