Myers produces a masterclass

An ambitious rising star takes the under-25 title and one all-conquering duo complete a full set of titles in the fast and furious pony classes

RISING stars Jake Myers and Gamin Des Rondets gave a masterclass of style and balance to secure the Evoke under-25 British championship.

The 21-year-old and Joanna Myers' stallion held their lead from first draw with a round that was unhurried, effortless and in perfect rhythm. There was no galloping, no rushing, just horsemanship, connection and mutual understanding as the Diamant De Semilly stallion showed his athleticism and scope to win without appearing to have to try.

“I’m super-proud, of my horse and my whole team,” Jake said.

Jake, who is based with Anthony Condon, knew he had to put the pressure on, and “do a decent round but not overcook it”.

“There were a lot of fast people after me, so I had to go as fast and tight as I could and hope it paid off,” he said. “It was nerve-racking but I’d done as much as I could so if someone beat me, good for them, as I couldn’t have asked any more of my horse. I’ve had him since he was four, so this is special.”
