Banned from one sport-banned from all the rest?

Racing and other disciplines are considering whether, and how, sanctions brought by one body could apply elsewhere

BANNED from one, banned from all? That is the question horse sports are mulling over as they look at whether there should, and can, be mutual recognition of sanctions.

British Equestrian’s (BEF) member bodies fall under its equine anti-doping and controlled medication rules (BEFAR). If a horse or person is suspended for a failed dope test in one discipline, they are not allowed to participate in any event organised by another BEF member body.

The same cross-discipline principle applies under FEI rules, which link to national federations so someone serving a BEFAR ban may not compete under FEI rules.
