New DNA evidence could prove Australia's worst female serial killer is innocent

Nineteen years after she was jailed for a crime that shocked the world, be cleared of killing her infant children.

New scientific evidence that "can't be ignored" was presented to the NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman, who last week ordered a new inquiry into the mysterious deaths of Kathleen's four children over a 10-year period between 1989 and 1999.

"She's feeling disappointed at not being pardoned but she's elated to be given the opportunity to have her voice heard," said Folbigg's friend Tracy Chapman after the news broke, adding that the convicted killer is hopeful of finally being released.

Folbigg has always maintained her innocence and was convicted on controversial circumstantial evidence after the children's father, her now ex-husband Craig Folbigg, went to police after finding her personal diary.

The entries detailed Folbigg's guilt and anguish over the deaths, beginning with the death of baby son Caleb, who was found dead in his cot just 19 days after he was born in 1989. Two years later their son Patrick died following seizures, aged eight months.
