The bad news is, you are definitely supposed to take the kids with you... but at least this lot can help to keep them entertained

JLAB JBUDDIES STUDIO WIRELESS

Kids’ headphones need to do more than just play music or movies: they need to do it without damaging your little ones’ delicate ears. These cans are limited to 85dB, which is the WHO’s recommended maximum level for long listens, so you can be confident your nippers aren’t ravaging their eardrums even on long trips.

Size-wise these are best for children of primary school age and into the early teens. Older teens are likely to want something with better sound and more volume; for younger kids, the JBuddies Folding are made for tots as young as two.

Headband on the run

The adjustable headband, padded cups and pinch-free hinges make it easy to get a nice fit, and the very light weight means they’re fine for longer listening sessions. All the controls are on the same bit of the left cup for easy access.

This model is twice the price of its wired equivalent, but £15 more is a small price to pay for the safety and convenience of cable-free use – and the sharing feature that enables you to connect two pairs to the same device is useful.

Battery life is a promised 24hrs of wireless listening, and you can fold the cups into the headband to make them slightly more packable.

MORE YOUTHFUL USEFULS

AMAZON KINDLE KIDS

This sprog-friendly version of Amazon’s excellent e-reader comes with a choice of four fun covers, a two-year no-quibble guarantee that includes accidental damage replacement, and a year of Amazon Kids+. Best of all, as it’s an e-reader the battery life is longer than most holidays.
