Sportstar and The Hindu, in association with the BCCI,have brought out a com-memorative edition celebrating India’s 500 Test appearances. ‘INDIA 500 TESTS… The journey began in 1932,’ recounts the exciting and memorable voyage of 84 years, from Lord’s 1932 to Green Park 2016, through the experiences of the players themselves! Complementing the narratives are stunning pictures, both period and contemporary.

Here are some excerpts from the book of the events that unfolded, decade-wise:

Vasant Raiji: C. K. Nayudu was, without doubt, the first outstanding player in India’s cricket history. A towering personality, he was attractive to watch. In fact, when he came out to bat, people expected sixes from him as he had hammered 11 for the Hindus against Arthur Gilligan’s team in 1926. That was, of course, not an official Test, but Nayudu’s innings helped put India on the international cricket map. He was also the first India player to be named by Wisden as one of its five cricketers of the year.
