Unattached (Part 2)
-
Carlo, good to have you back for Part 2. We are looking forward to more stories that will have us forgetting about our troubles for a moment.
Sure, let’s do this again.
What do you have for us?
Ha, ha, ha. You remember last week I was telling you about Azwindini Maphaha? Well, I played with another crazy goalkeeper at Platinum Stars. The person I am talking about is Mbongeni Mzimela. There is no one funnier than that guy in South Africa.
Ha, ha, ha, you reckon?
He is a very serious guy and you’d think that he was working as a police officer at night, because when we were training in the morning, he would sleep against the pole. He was always tired in the morning. We kept asking ourselves if this guy worked as a policeman overnight because he was always tired. If the ball was not coming to him, he would sleep against the upright. So, we would wake him up and just laugh about it. That guy was a legend, I tell you, ha, ha, ha.
We can imagine that there is so much more Mzimela did if he was such a funny guy to have around.
There was this one day after training where we decided to go to Sun City. So, we are driving there in his car, but on the way there, we get stopped by the traffic cops and they asked him for his licence.
Licence, please, Sir!

We knew the task was bigger than us
Congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns on their crucial CAF Champions League semi-final first leg win away to Esperance on Sunday night. It was a gutsy performance by the Brazilians as they showed a lot of character against such a hostile crowd. The atmosphere was unbelievable as Esperance supporters came out in their numbers to try and intimidate their visitors, but the Chloorkop-based team stood their ground and remained resolute.

More eyes are on women's football
Nthabeleng “Dunga” Modiko’s job as the head coach of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Women’s FC doesn’t just entail leading the first team in the Hollywoodbets Super League, the Varsity Cup and the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Women’s Football Championships. She’s also in charge of their Sasol League and Local Football Association (LFA) sides. Last year the Kroonstad-born coach was named USSA Women’s Football Championships Coach of the Tournament after leading her side to victory. She was also in charge of the UJ side that finished seventh in the Hollywoodbets Super League. In this interview with Soccer Laduma’s Mzoxolo Budaza, the former Banyana Banyana captain opens up about her duties at UJ, what women’s football needs and the role played by supporters in the development of community women’s clubs.

South African football has long been celebrated for its flair, embodied in the \"kasi flavour\": a unique style characterized by flashy dribbling and creative but sometimes extravagant individual play.
