Getting Stronger For The Game And For Life

Throughout this series of articles I have touched on a variety of topics, bringing to light how body fitness helps one to become both a strong and resilient golfer.
This month I would like to re-visit what I believe to be one of the most important aspects of golf fitness that bears weekly self-focus.
Commonly recurring injuries in golf are in the lower back and wrist. Wrist injury occurs for a variety of reasons, one example is through over use, such as hitting one too many balls on the range. Other reasons could be swing tendencies or just a general weakness of the wrists.
For the lower back, poor mobility and lack of core strength are the two major causes of pain. And it is a common misconception that we need to stretch the lower back for relief.
The truth is, lower back pain is often caused by either the hips or thoracic spine not being able to move optimally. When either part suffers from insufficient mobility, the lower back will try to compensate and make up for the lack of range of motion.
