A World Cup Every Year?

If the International Cricket Council (ICC) goes ahead with the proposed major event every year, it robs people of excitement renewal and memory recall. Cite the Indian Premier League.

For two months of the blistering Indian summer, all is forgiven as players from around the world make the necessary jaunt across the length and breadth of the country, coursing through nights of travel instead of sleep and the nightmare of playing fourteen to sixteen matches per tournament in that time in order to earn the kind of money that is a sportsman’s windfall in a short career span.

While the Indian Premier League (IPL) has indeed provided players a huge incentive in terms of money, what needs to be evaluated is what it is taken away in terms of credibility.

For one, the IPL has now become a necessary evil on the map, particularly for ardent cricket aficionados. After all, despite the bowlers having caught up on the Twenty20 game significantly in the past decade, the idea of mindlessly hitting and punching night after night and sometimes day and night through the season can be fatigue inducing.
