HONOURS
Lille OSC were formally established in 1944 following a merger between the city’s two teams Olympique Lillois and Sporting Club Fivois. After a six-year suspension to French football due to the Second World War, the French league resumed for the 1945/46 season and Lille won a cup double in their inaugural season in the form of the league title and Coupes de France. They remained competitive in their early years, finishing runners up four years running in their first six years and clinching their second league title came in the 1953/54 season. The preceding decades lacked the success the club achieved in their early years and Lille bounced between the top and second tier of French football. Fortunes changed from the 2000s onwards and Lille’s third league title came in 2011 when the club replicated the success of their first season with another league and cup double.
