Yates Eyes Grand Tour Victory — Again
CYCLING WEEKLY
|September 13, 2018
Simon Yates leads Vuelta a España with just one mountain stage to ride.
If Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) is getting a strong sense of déjà vu he won’t be alone. Once again the Bury boy was poised, if not quite on the brink then at least on the last lap, of his first Grand Tour victory, as he began this final week of the Vuelta a España.
British fans will be excited to anticipate an unprecedented third Grand Tour win by a third Briton this year. But like Yates himself, they will be reluctant to start celebrating just yet given the memory of his collapse on the Colle delle Finestre on stage 19 of the Giro this year, while leading the race by 28 seconds.
