At first glance the Dursley-Pedersen bicycle looks like a sailor’s hammock slung on a garden gate. At second glance, it looks just the same — like it should be accompanied by a continuous soundtrack of circus clown music.

You might reasonably wonder why anyone would invent such a thing when the basic diamond-framed bicycle layout with conventional saddle has survived more or less unchanged since the earliest days of cycling. There is a reason, and it goes back to those same pioneering days.
