BJP Names Former Union Minister From Rourkela, Changes Candidates In 2 Seats
The Morning Standard
|April 17, 2024
THE BJP on Tuesday released the second list of candidates for 21 Assembly seats and nominated former Union minister Dilip Ray from Rourkela.
In a notable change, the central election committee (CEC) renominated senior leader and former minister Surama Padhy from Ranpur Assembly segment by replacing Tapas Ranjan Martha. Padhy had given a tough fight to the BJD in 2019 and lost the election by a slender margin. But, she was surprisingly dropped in the first list released by the party, which had nominated Martha in her place. He was stated to have the backing of national spokesperson and Puri Lok Sabha candidate Sambit Patra.
Pottangi is the other Assembly constituency where the party has changed its candidate.
