Candidates File Nominations For Byelections

In all, 91 candidates have submitted their papers in Aravakurichi, 61 in Sulur, 63 in Tirupparankundram and 40 in Ottapidaram

The Aravakurichi Taluk Office witnessed a flurry of activity on Monday — the last date for filing of nominations for the upcoming bypolls — as candidates of various parties arrived to file their nomination papers.

A festive atmosphere prevailed in the area, as a good number of candidates, including the AIADMK’s V.V. Senthilnathan, came in rallies to file nominations. The police had a tough time regulating the crowd. Since hundreds of AIADMK cadre assembled on important streets of Aravakurichi, traffic on the Bazaar was diverted until 3 p.m. Due to the unprecedented crowd, most shops in Aravakurichi downed shutters as a precautionary measure.
