Chinese Aggression May Feature In India-EU Talks

European Union, India also likely to find ways to begin dialogue on free trade agreement

The 15th India-EU Summit which will be held on July 15 is likely to see discussions on specific issues of growing Chinese assertiveness. The summit will primarily focus on three broad areas — ways to expand overall economic engagement, strengthen multilateralism and handle the adverse impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

To a question on whether if the recent India-China border stand-off could come up, a source said, “Contemporary situation and developments will form part of the discussions but as of now it will be difficult to say. When the leadership talks at that level, the discussions take their own turn. There will be clarity after the talks.”

The two sides are also going to focus on enhancing global supply chains. India has been talking about creating alternatives to China as part of the supply chain.
