It has been a long wait for elite track and field athletes confined at the hostels of NIS Patiala since the first lockdown in March.

With 219 runs required on a fifth-day track, it will be an onerous job for the Australian batsmen, who have been struggling against a consistent Indian attack with their ultra-defensive approach.

While relaxations May 18 onwards has encouraged athletes to get back to training, that hasn’t been the case for the national campers. The athletics stars have been waiting for clarity on training resumption from Sports Authority of India, who in its recent standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines refused to take responsibility of athlete’s health at its centres.
