ADDP slams Ravi Kumar

2-year ban on shooter after testing positive for beta-blocker

THE Anti Doping Disciplinary Panel has come down heavily on shooter Ravi Kumar, who serves in the Indian Air Force in the non-commissioned rank. Having failed a dope test for a rank. Having failed a dope medicine containing propranolol, a beta-blocker, Ravi has been suspended for a period of two years effective December 5, 2019.

An international shooter who has won medals at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games level, Ravi is supposed to be well versed with the rules of anti-doping. However, in June, when he was competing in the Kumar Surendra Singh memorial shooting event in the Capital, Ravi’s urine sample was taken.

The order states: “In the doping control form which was filled by the athlete (Ravi Kumar) before his urine sample was taken, he has nowhere declared in the column of medication use that for 10 days (June 6, 2019 to June 12, 2019) he has taken allopathic medicines for treatment of fever, headache, sneezing and vomiting, which included Cardimol Plus, having beta-blocker.” He has also not told the doctor he is an athlete.
