AS EVER just read my TRP cover to cover and now with the RFU having announced how teams this season will be promoted and relegated as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, timing is good to consider league structure at Levels 1 to 4.
I’m a 70-year-old life member at Blackheath and have been the team manager for the 1st XV for over 20 years.
I played many a game that cost me, rather than getting paid. This year has been no different than the last 20 years just that the cost and debt has varied. The RFU used to give us nearly £100k but that has effectively gone.
There is no doubt that all clubs will, to varying degrees, have financial difficulties in the weeks, months and even years ahead as a result of the coronavirus.
Bearing in mind regulations say clubs must be given a season’s notice before changes to the league can be made, my proposed changes are for 2021-22.
