DELIGHTED Nathan Rooney wants to see his high-flying Colne side given the opportunity to finish what they’ve started – and is calling for the season to be resolved on the pitch.

RED LIGHT CAN'T STOP ROO CREW

The 30-year-old has led the Reds to the top of the Pitching In Northern Premier League North/West in his first job as head coach since taking over last summer after leaving his role as first-team coach at Carlisle United.

They’ve won 22 points from nine games in their bid to reach Step 3 under ambitious chairman Ryan Haigh, but Colne’s promotion dream is now on hold with the campaign unable to finish as normal.

“It’s all question marks at the moment, ” Rooney told The NLP. “Like everyone has had to, we’ve man- a g e d the suspensions between everything, from our angle we want the opportunity, in some capacity, to attempt to finish the league.

“Whoever is at the top of the league, I think, will always want that outcome, but the ones who aren’t fighting for anything may want to see the season come to an end which I can understand.

“I think if all the teams can agree to 50 per cent of the league, 18 games each, the majority of teams have played around the halfway mark already.
