League and clubs’ plea for support
NATIONAL League chief executive Michael Tattersall says they need in the region of £3m/month for their three divisions to get their season underway behind closed doors – and is hoping to hear from the government regarding a rescue package imminently.
Plans for the 2020-21 season were thrown into chaos this week when it was revealed the return of fans from October 1 at the elite level in England, which includes Non-League Steps 1 and 2, would be paused.
The National League is scheduled to start on Saturday, running until the end of May and play-offs in June, with the North and South divisions playing their first competitive matches in the FA Cup second round qualifying before beginning their league campaign from October 5.
Some clubs want the season to start despite fixtures being played behind closed doors while others would only want to play if financial support is forthcoming.
