An exacting industry with no room for error, aviation requires adequate skill development

For many, a career in aviation is the dream job. The industry continues to grow exponentially and India is expected to emerge as its third-largest market by 2022. Gradual strengthening of the Indian economy due to urbanization and an increase in middle class with disposable income are some of the factors responsible for the rise of the sector. Positive policy initiatives such as removal of FDI limits for sub-sectors that include airports, air cargo, ground handling, general aviation and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) along with focused development of infrastructure such as airports have contributed to its expansion. In the coming five years, the government’s push on regional connectivity, under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) scheme is expected to democratize flying and increase the size of the sector further.
