The event was organised by Louise James, who lost five members of her family in the tragedy.

Louise lost her partner Sean McGrotty, 49, their sons Mark, 12, and Evan, eight, her mum Ruth Daniels, 59, and her sister Jodie-Lee Daniels, 14, on March 20 last year.

The only survivor was her baby daughter, Rioghnach-Ann, who was saved by Davitt Walsh, after he swam out and pulled her from the sinking car.

Louise and her baby daughter led the walk from Sainsbury’s on Friday evening, which saw 1,200 people help raise money for the Evan McGrotty Research Fund.
