This month Phil Short checks out Mick Taylor, the musical catalyst who helped launch the Rolling Stones’ second wave of success.
The 60s and 70s were a foundational time for guitar and music in general. The Beatles were changing the face of popular music as we knew it, and bands like The Who, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin would all go on to become the iconic legends they are today. But The Rolling Stones had become disenchanted, partly due to their ill-received album Their Satanic Majesties Request, or ‘Sergeant Pepper light’ as many viewed it. Keith Richards felt they should return to their R&B roots and, when Brian Jones found himself unable to carry on (and died shortly after), it ushered in a new era.
