-

Drinking alcohol produces a harmful chemical in the body which can damage the DNA of stem cells, increasing the risk of cancer.
British scientists used chromosome analysis and DNA sequencing on mice to examine the genetic damage caused by acetaldehyde, a harmful chemical produced when there’s alcohol in the body.
The study, published in the journal Nature, shows how alcohol increases the risk of developing seven types of cancer, including breast and bowel cancer.
