AMONG NEW CANNABIS PRODUCTS IS ONE THAT MIGHT CHANGE THE WAY MARYLANDERS SLEEP.
“You know in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, when the father put Windex on everything?” I put balm on everything,” says Wendy Bronfein with a laugh.
The co-founder, chief brand officer, and director of public policy at Curio Wellness, a Timonium-based medical cannabis brand, is referring to Curio’s Dixie Synergy Relief: CBD and THC Balm. Formulated using a 1:1 ratio of THC, the key psychoactive component of cannabis known for its euphoric effects when ingested, and CBD, the cannabinoid most commonly credited with the plant’s health benefits, it’s what Bronfein calls an “allbalm,” with uses for everything from sports injuries to menstrual cramps. “I even use it at night as my night cream,” she adds. “I told myself that it’ll be like this anti-aging magic.”
And Bronfein could very well be on to something. For ages, medical cannabis patients have used the oils extracted from the plant to quell everything from aching joints to appetite loss. And while much less is known about cannabis as it relates to the world of anti-aging skincare, this hasn’t stopped an influx of green-fangled tints, creams oils, and toners (the stuff you’d find in goodie bags at a Kim Kardashian baby shower) from making the retail rounds in droves. It may be some time until we see how these regimens take effect, but it’s no secret that the same two cannabinoids mentioned have been linked to another thing: some decent shut-eye. Accounting for roughly a third of the average human life, it’s perhaps nature’s best anti-aging tool—and the driving force behind Goodnight, Curio’s cannabis sleep aid launched last year.
